Background
How I ended up doing Medicare work
A relative of mine once picked a plan that read fine on paper but didn't cover her specialist. Nobody had checked the network first. Fixing that took one long afternoon of phone calls, and it's why the first question I ask anyone is who their doctors are.
The routine hasn't changed much since. I sit with someone, write down their providers and medications, then price the plans I can offer against that exact list. Some visits, the honest answer is that their current plan already beats anything I have, so I say that.
Medicare rules come from Washington, but the plans themselves are local. What matters in Sumter, Lake and Marion County is which carriers actually hold solid provider networks here, and which one quietly dropped a clinic last contract year.
